VeriChip Expands Hospital Infrastructure: Hackensack University Medical Center Becomes the Second Major Medical Center to Adopt the VeriChip System
VeriChip Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Applied Digital (NASDAQ: ADSX) announced today that Hackensack University Medical University (HUMC), Hackensack, New Jersey will initiate a clinical evaluation program of the VeriChip System in its Emergency Department for clinical use. The facility will now be able to scan patients to obtain their VeriChip ID Number and utilize the associated information.
Commenting on the HUMC decision to enable its ED physicians and staff to utilize the VeriChip System, Dr. Richard Seelig, Vice President, Medical Applications of VeriChip Corporation, commented, "We are pleased that as a progressive, innovative, well respected medical center HUMC recognizes that the VeriChip technology can enhance clinical care and expand the use of its sophisticated patient information system across all clinical services. Area physicians can now recommend to patients the placement of a VeriChip knowing that a major regional facility in the New York and New Jersey metropolitan area has the capability of both reading the VeriChip and accessing electronically stored medical information. Together with HUMC, we anticipate the result will be more rapid and accurate access to crucial medical information when patient communication is diminished or absent."
Joseph Feldman, M.D., Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine of HUMC, stated, "We look forward to utilizing the VeriChip System to assist in patient identification and access to medical information. Particularly beneficial for patients with chronic illnesses, this modality will assist us in expediting the quality level of care which we provide."
In addition, Nicholas Minicucci, Jr., founder and president of the MOLLY Foundation at Hackensack University Medical Center, has endorsed the VeriChip technology on behalf of his daughter, Molly Phillips. Molly will be one of the first patients to be "chipped." Initial patients will be "chipped" at the medical center during the week of March 14th.
