A US Consulate General spokesman Dale Kreisher has
said that the USS Nimitz strike group has arrived in Hong Kong
on a port call.
Kreisher said that the 7,000-strong strike group is scheduled
to stay for a "couple of days." However, he refused
to inform how long the ships are going to stay there exactly due
to security reasons.
The strike group includes the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier and
the naval ships the USS Princeton, the USS Chafee, the USS Higgins
and the USS John Paul Jones.
The aircraft carrier arrived in Hong Kong after the Kitty Hawk
battle group planned to make a long-term visit to Hong Kong last
Thanksgiving, but upon arrival was told that they were not given
a green light by Beijing to grant access.

The incident scraped ties between Washington and Beijing.
After the Kitty Hawk incident, the USS Blue Ridge was the first
Navy ship to visit the former British colony.
The Kitty Hawk has resumed a fresh bid to visit Hong Kong, but
Chinese Foreign Ministry said it is yet to make a decision on
the request.
