As George W. Bush prepares to leave office, he and his staff
appear to be attempting to rewrite history to cast him in a
more favorable light -- but it seems that history may have the
last laugh.
MSNBC's Keith Olbermann featured three examples of "Revision-gate"
on his program Tuesday, starting with Press Secretary Dana Perino's
insistence that, rather than Americans being occupiers, "we
are absolutely a guest" in Iraq.
"Obviously, that microphone flying in the post-shoe fracas
hit her in her grammar," Olbermann suggested.
Olbermann's prime example, however, was Bush's claim while
visiting Afghanistan this week that "I never said the Taliban
was eliminated, I said they were removed from power."

Olbermann refuted this a flurry of Bush quotes, including his
statement in September 2004 that "the Taliban is no longer
in existence." Bush has also repeatedly referred to the
"defeat" of the Taliban and claimed in September 2002
that "the Taliban's ability to brutalize the Afghan people
and to harbor and support terrorists has been virtually eliminated."
"See, here's the thing," Olbermann concluded, literally
throwing up his hands. "The president is just full of crap."
