Israeli forces have fired mortars into Lebanon after rockets
fell on northern Israel, the army has confirmed.
The move was "a pinpoint response at the source of fire",
a military spokesman said.
Three rockets hit northern Israel the area near the town
of Nahariya, five miles south of the Lebanese border.
Two elderly women were lightly wounded by one of the rockets,
according to Israeli medical staff.
The Israeli military had been on alert for attacks by Lebanon's
Hizbollah since Israel launched its operation on Gaza. Northern
Israel previously came under attack from Hizbollah during
a war in the summer of 2006 which involved a major Israeli
ground offensive.

border, said: "If it is Hizbollah, it is a major development.
It means Israel will have to fight a war on two fronts."
