Animal instinct, pet owners swear by it. From
cats sensing impending health problems like seizures, to dogs
barking madly when unfamiliar footsteps appear on the garden
path.
Even as far back as 373BC, it is recorded that animals, including
rats, snakes and weasels, deserted the Greek city of Helice
in droves just days before a quake devastated the place.
Those without that 'special bond', though, remain sceptical.
