The family of a pensioner shot dead by police last night
demanded to know why he was killed.
They spoke as it emerged that Mervyn Tussler, 64, was in despair
because his frail wife was to be moved to a nursing home.
The devoted husband was gunned down after brandishing an antique
pistol at the retirement complex where he had cared for Winifred,
his wife of 15 years.
Friends in Fernhurst, West Sussex, say he snapped two days
after social services told him he was to be separated from
Mrs Tussler, 72, who was being moved to a home for 24-hour
medical care.

Last night his brother David, 73, from Godalming, Surrey,
said: 'I want answers from the police. Why was he shot dead
and why wasn't he shot in the arm or the leg? That's what
I can't understand.
'If it was anyone else who did that, they'd get put up for
murder. But the police get away with it and they can do anything
they like.
'I think they just shot him instead of trying to resolve the
situation.'
