Flu Clinic Gives Adult Doses To 7 Kids

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- The Coconino County Health
Department says seven children mistakenly received adult doses
of swine flu vaccine at a Flagstaff clinic last weekend.
They say the children -- ages 6 months to 9 years old -- received
double the amount of vaccine than they should have via a pre-filled
injection at a flu clinic where 704 people were vaccinated Saturday.
Health officials say they contacted all of the families as
soon as they learned of the issue and asked about any adverse
side effects and none were affected. But they say the children
will still need a second round of flu vaccine to have immunity.
County Health Director Barbara Worgess says it's possible that
similar packaging between the vaccines for adults and those
for children could have led to confusion. She says more training
is being conducted to avoid future mistakes.
